Harvest Report 2010

The answer isn't "Blow'in in the Wind"(More like gone with the wind)
2010 will go down in history as one of the most unusual harvests in living memory.

It all started off very promising but in October and November unprecedented weather conditions, including gale force east wind in flowering followed by winter like rain, stormed through our vineyards and left in its wake severe damage to the vines.  Our potential crop was reduced significantly, and while this will ultimately lead to grapes of great concentration and quality, it has definitely not made our bank manager very happy.

This, however, is the wonderful challenge of winemaking for which we sign up every year and we steadfastly believe that even in these difficult conditions our wines will live up to the high standards that you have become accustomed to.

The first grapes – organic Chardonnay - from this harvest have been pressed for Avondale MCC Brut and have yielded healthy juice and wine, full of the usual outstanding Avondale character!
