Avondale is now a proud member of British biodiversity organization, Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF).

LEAF promotes common-sense and sustainable farming, and is in line with owner and viticulturist Johnathan Grieve’s natural Bio-LOGIC way of farming grapes and fruit.
Grieve’s soil-focused Bio-LOGIC farming is done without synthetic fertilizer, or chemical pesticides or herbicides. Instead cover-crops, pioneering soil balancing methods and natural predators are employed to farm in an eco-friendly way.
Through its practice of integrated farming management (IMF), LEAF propagates the use of traditional farming practices together with modern technology with the objective to produce fruit and grapes to the highest standards, yet with minimal environmental impact.
“At Avondale we cultivate 100 hectares of grapes organically in our own unique way of Bio-LOGIC. At present, 25 hectares are certified. But we always look to employ environmentally friendly technology and tools to achieve organic and biodynamic goals,” says Grieve.
“Too often the formal disciplines of organics and biodynamics tells you what not to do, but seldom ask what can be done as long it is beneficial to Mother Nature,” he says.
