Since the Grieve family took over Avondale in 1997, the entire farm, from the manor house to labour cottages, vineyards, dams and heritage buildings were meticulously and carefully restored under the watchful eye of avid Cape Dutch antique collectors John and Ginny Grieve, the founders of Avondale.

Today, the modern cellar stands as a testament to fine taste and a celebration of tradition within a modern concept. The building itself is a grand example of how historical dimensions in a new building can add space and splendour in a simple yet imposing way. Not surprisingly, the wine tasting and reception quarters, with its lofty presence, house some of John’s statesmanlike 17th and 18th century furniture.

Leading up to the stone stoep of the cellar, Ginny’s lush organic rose garden welcomes the visitor is waves of colour and scent.  This is a perfect setting for pre-dinner liquid languishing or happy pictures.

You can celebrate your special day amid these splendours, as our venue is available for weddings and selected receptions.
