On his early quest to eliminate the use of chemicals, Avondale proprietor, Johnathan Grieve searched all corners of the earth to find modern tools which could simulate natural farming operations.
After much research, he discovered the Italian farming implement manufacturer OLMI and he began to make use of their implements at Avondale. So great was the success in terms of both cost-efficiency and enhancing sustainable practice, that Johnathan decided to become the sole agent for OLMI in South Africa. Avondale now offers a full range of ‘sustainable’ implements that will assist other wine-growers in transforming to sustainable viticulture. All the OLMI implements are designed to eliminate or at least reduce a farmer’s dependence on chemical inputs.
OLMI has been manufacturing agricultural implements since 1965. They have a considerable reputation for producing an exceptional range of high quality vineyard and orchard machinery. The OLMI machine range is renowned for its simplicity of design, robustness and above all else, it’s founding principle that their products are powered mechanically, and not hydraulically.
