Avondale was established on the slopes of the Klein Drakenstein Mountains to the south of the town of Paarl. Early records indicate that the farm was one of the first in the Paarl Valley to be allocated specifically for the production of wine grapes.

Directions from Cape Town
From Cape Town, take the N1 north towards Paarl. Slip off the N1 at Exit 59 (Jan van Riebeeck). At the T-junction, turn right towards Franschhoek. Follow the signs and turn left into Lustigan Road – the first road to the left – and then right into the estate.

Directions from Worcester
From Worcester, take the N1 north towards Cape Town. Slip off the N1 at Exit 59 (Jan van Riebeeck). At the T-junction, turn left towards Franschhoek. Follow the signs and turn left into Lustigan Road – the first road to the left – and then right into the estate.

Directions from Franschhoek
From Franschhoek, take the R45 and turn right onto the R301 towards Paarl and follow for 15 km. Follow the signs and turn right into Lustigan Road – the first road to the right – and then right into the estate.
