In the last days of September, Avondale joined hundreds of South African wine producers at the Cape Town International Convention Centre for Cape Wine 2012. Widely regarded as the most successful international wine trade show in the southern hemisphere, Cape Wine is the business showcase of the South African wine industry. It is presented every two years by Wines of South Africa (WOSA), a not-for-profit industry organisation promoting the exports of all South African wine in key international markets.
Like many of the other exhibitors, Avondale was immersed in meetings and presentations with existing and potential international clients, agents, importers and media over the three action-packed days. We appreciated that WOSA made various efforts to stage a green event, and amongst other initiatives, our sturdy stands were made of recycled cardboard with aim that they can be used again for other events. Avondale was also part of the ‘Leaders in Sustainability Winelands Tours’ which offered delegates a chance to get out into the Cape Winelands and see our eco-friendly wine production in action. Along with Backsberg Estate Cellars and Reynecke Wines, Avondale hosted two Eco Tours at our farm and welcomed more than 50 delegates to the farm. WOSA has been commended for their impressive, professional organisation of the event which certainly cast South Africa’s wine industry in a very positive and bright light. We are looking forward now to converting all the positive leads we gained into great business opportunities for Avondale’s extraordinary wines approved by Mother Nature.
